For parents/guardians

Crafting Connections is open to children aged 0-17. Whilst the packs are primarily aimed at ages 3+, the Artwork Challenge, questionnaire and many of the additional craft activity ideas can easily be adapted to suit babies and toddlers. Please note that some of the craft materials we send may not be suitable for under 3s.

Yes, absolutely. Please read about what we can and can’t accept first.

Crafting Connections will only send your child’s first name to your friend’s care home. The additional information that you share will be up to you, but we ask you not to include personal details such as your address, phone number and name of your child’s school.

Every submission from both children and care homes is sent directly to The Together Project (the charity that runs Crafting Connections) before being swapped. This means that address details are never shared and that we can check that all submissions meet our safeguarding standards before they are distributed.

Crafting Connections aims to create long lasting friendships that blossom over time. We hope that you and your child will stay with us for at least a year, but you are free to stop your involvement at any time. Please email us on hello@craftingconnections.org.uk to discuss a cancellation.

We have so many care home residents who can’t wait to start swapping with their new friend! While care homes will do their best to help their residents participate every month, things can crop up that make this tricky. For example, your friend might have a hospital stay that means they can’t complete their activity one month. We’ll give you as much notice as possible and you’ll still receive your monthly pack – we’ll pop an extra goody in there too to make up for it.

Sadly, it is likely that some of our Crafting Connections members will pass away during the project. We’ll give you a phone call to let you know and follow this up with a supportive email giving ideas for further reading that can help you in your conversations with your child. If you consent, we will also send a card in the post to your child celebrating their friendship. You will be given the option to continue on the scheme and be matched with a new friend.

Yes please 🙂 We understand that sometimes life gets in the way though, so if you’re unable to send your artwork and questionnaire back one month, please drop us a line at hello@craftingconnections.org.uk with as much notice as possible so we can let your friend know.
You can read our full process on how we approach late and non-submissions in  section 23 of our Terms & Conditions.

For older people

Crafting Connections has been designed to suit all ages and abilities. It’s an activity that many older people living in care homes will enjoy completing independently, or in a group activity setting, whilst some may need more one-on-one support from your team.

We ask that homes commit to a minimum of ten residents in order to make things as cost-effective as possible (but if you’re struggling with this, please get in touch. And there’s no maximum; as soon as we have children to match with your residents they can take part.

In the event that one of your residents’ young friends leaves the scheme, we’ll let you know personally. They will be given the option to continue on the scheme and be matched with a new friend.
